What is the Board’s role?

As a Board, we are responsible for respecting and protecting the interests and rights of customers (member-owners). While seeking to continually grow and improve the organisation, we act within a regulatory framework recognising that directors are responsible for the governance of an organisation with approximately $450 million of assets managed on behalf of 60,000 member-owners. We strive for best practice governance, regularly benchmark director remuneration to market, and undertake regular Board evaluations.

What are we looking for?

We are a professional, high performing and strategic Board looking for someone to bring their successful background and experience to the role. You’ll be a collaborator and contributor with the ability to evaluate, form conclusions and apply good judgement. We are seeking to appoint an experienced director with one or more of the following specific skills:

  • Banking operations
  • People and culture
  • Digital technology solutions
  • Marketing

What the role involves?

The majority of monthly Board meetings are held at the head office in Hastings while some monthly meetings and special purpose meetings are held by video-conference or at other New Zealand locations. Regulatory and compliance risk management is important for the Board including ensuring adherence to the credit union’s fit and proper person policy and Reserve Bank suitability requirements.
